Senility Strikes .
I decided to change out the rear backing plates on my latest project . I found a pair in the "stores" with good no slop lever bushings and linings. So I removed the ones on the axle no problem when I came to fit the replacement pair no matter what I did I could not fit them . Over the years I have never had to remove the radius rods,a deft practised wiggle/wriggle and they come clear no problem They come off easier than going on .These are complete backing plates with everything fitted ready to go . I have done this on both styles radius rods .I got to thinking I took identical ones off but could not get identical ones back on so nothing has physically changed so it must be my BRAIN !!! In the end I had to take the radius rods off PIA as bolt is very close to the service brake cross shaft first time ever. I seem to have lost "the knack" !!!

Over the years we all have lost the knack. Time will do that to you.

John, The problem is that you live in the land of "eternal fog", it tends to rust your brain!

Hey John,
'Time isn't on my side' (or some such), an old song title. A world wide condition... I just found a wrench, in my back pocket, that I put there last week !! |

That must be why you had that PIA all week! By the way, John if you don’t do something regularly it’s always difficult. My Toyota mechanic won’t work on anything but Toyota and Lexus cars. He said he’d have to have have a library of manuals and he’d have to spend a lot of time researching different makes. Through experience he also has learned what issues are common in those cars.
