I thought the number was on the top of the left frame rail, and could be seen from under the hood. Well I can't find it, I know I saw it 30 years ago but I can't find it now. If the trans. is original is it stamped on top front of that also? Maybe the frame is stamped further back under the removable floor pan? I sold the car and want to show the new owner that the numbers are correct. Thanks for any help on this.

I have a 1941 transmission and the number is on the top of the transmission but it starts with 18-xxxxxxx

Top of left frame rail right around the front cross member.
Also midway back same side. As well as where the frame curves up over rear axle.
I believe the only one easily readable is the front one.
I know my numbers match and I still have to hunt for the stamping every time.
Very faint.

You may want to try this, I was told to just pour some plain tap water on the frame area near the steering box then the numbers magically appeared for me good luck

You'll find the number very close to the front crossmember on top of the left frame rail.

One guy I was corresponding with who was looking for the serial on his '41 eventually wrote me back...he had found his number on the crossmember and registered the car with it! His number...drumroll...11A-5019! He had found a stamped part number on his crossmember and his DMV had cheerfully accepted it.
