No probleemo, It will be interesting to see how these work compared to Dick's with FHT's floaters. I might go that way yet... we'll see. I have lower back troubles so about an hour and a half of this brake stuff is all I can do. Seems funny that all I accomplished today was turning a bolt two turns...

Just think about that bolt and what it took to get those 2 turns!

I say Well Done!

You know, that bolt is still going to be there tomorrow, and maybe just as stubborn as it was today, so save your energy and give it another blast tomorrow.

Was thinking about removing the muffler and brake cross shaft so I could get a better swing at the bolt... then it moved! Made my day.

In Ted's youtube video he uses a small grinder to flatten the track. Not sure I'd do that. Depends how munged the track is I guess.

The offending bolt is removed! The rear backing plate bolts looked pretty worn so I've ordered new ones, along with the radius rod bolt. I added a impact wrench to my tool chest, I don't have room for a large air compressor so I opted for the Ryobi cordless one. I have other Ryobi tools so I already had batteries. I could hardly turn this bolt with a 1/2 inch breaker bar, and this turned it no problem at all, would have saved me hours and many Advil.

One of the best reasons for owning a Model A is it is a good excuse to buy more tools.

No wonder so many people build more than one A. You've already got all the tools... might as well!

Surprisingly, for getting around my repetitively flat surroundings, they worked OK and I never really felt unsafe driving. Randy has a good selection of good used parts on hand and hooked me up with a good front hub (loose bearing race) and a replacement emergency brake ass'y, one of mine was cracked. I've really enjoyed being kept "in the loop" on the process. He's called me several times with updates, questions, and concerns... I really like that.

Wow!! Impressively good work.

Art that seems to be the norm today

The Saga continues...
I ordered new bolts for the rear backing plates while ordering the radius rod bolt. Also ordered new clevis' , from Berts because they ship fast. The clevis' were out of stock, did they warn me of that fact... no. Shipped the rest anyway. And the bolts are awful. The radius rod bolt is nearly chrome! Not a show car, so what. But the backing plate bolts are bad. One of the short ones is even a different thread, none of the long bolts threads are cleaned up after drilling for cotter. Its all going back. As my coupe sits there on the jack stands.

Art,
I have a whole box full of hardware that I purchased from various reputable vendors. All were worse than reusing my old. Most were not even close to looking like the originals. I finally learned. Unfortunately the backing plate bolts are not standard. Hopefully you can find some good used ones.

Hardware Sales should have the radius rod bolt.

I found my clevises were still within specs. The clevis pins...not so much. Hopefully that's all you need and hopefully they are available.

The short bolts on the rears won't tighten all the way. Can only assume they are stretched or worn at the head... maybe I should just make spacers?

That's a major bummer, Art. I got mine from Snyder's and did not see any obvious issues with them.

I ended up reusing my clevis and just replaced the pins. The replacement clevis would not thread up with my brake rods.

Talked with this guy on the phone, ordered what I need, shipping was 8 bucks. Says their stuff is suitable for point car restorations. A whole set of backing plate bolts (front and rear) for about the same price as just the rears from Bert's. We'll see.

Art, are you sure you have the correct nuts. I noticed on my backing plates that the castle nuts on the rear didn't have the threads all the way thru, the stopped ~1/8" from the end, allowing the bolt shoulder to go into the nut.

My old and new do have the last threads relieved a bit on the end. Bert's is taking back the new ones, no problem. Bert's is going to check the rest of their stock for irregularity. My drivers side will tighten down, passenger will not. They are severely worn, probably weren't tightened down properly.
