Default 41 p/u seat frame

I thought I had a seat frame ordered from Le Baron Bonney, but they aren't available any longer. I don't know what it's supposed to look like, so I can't even make one. I'll take any info; pictures, diagrams, patterns or best of all , a source to buy from. I have a decent set of springs. Thanks, Joel

There isn't a seat frame as such.

There's a base, which has a plywood under surface. That has holes in it that go over the raised pegs on the sheet metal base that is welded ton the floor of the cab.
There is a backrest, which has two bits that stick up and engage in two slots in the back of the cab. The bottom of the backrest has two hinged plates that are supposed to be screwed into the plywood base.

Hopefully someone has pics, the point I was trying to make is that there is not a "frame" as such.

Mart.

I replaced the stock seat in my '39 p/u with an assembly from Glide Engineering. The back adjusts and the seat bottom lifts up for storage. Not the cheapest route but I'm very happy with how things turned out. I posted some photos of the frame and I believe of the final product here on the barn.

I assume the picture is of the bottom. Thanks. The 3 sets of holes implies seat adjustment for and aft?

Thanks, Mart. I'm going to look for the slots. Maybe it will make some sense.

Yes, the three holes per side are to allow some position adjustment of the seat cushion.

The seat back pic is a great help. I assume a wood framework with the metal brackets screwed to it ( similar to the 40 5w coupe seat back framework). I see 2 holes ( one in each verticle cab brace). Does the seat back fasten there or to the seat riser? Does the seat back rest against the back of the cab or is it free standing? Thanks very much for your help, Kube.

The two metal pieces sticking down from the backrest attach to the metal plates screwed to the rear of the base. (think like a gate hinge) . The three pairs of holes do allow fore and aft adjustment of the base, on the two pegs that stick up at the front corners of the base sheetmetal. not seen in Mikes (excellent) pics are two pieces that stick up vertically that insert into two slits in the rear of the cab, in the reinforcement pieces shown. they are just out of the picture.

I think the rear is all metal, but you could easily improvise with a plywood based frame for the backrest.

Mart.

I got my truck back home today (temporary storage) so I can look in there and either see what's going on or ask more questions. I see what looks like "keyhole" shaped openings in Kube's cab picture; are those the slots you are referring to? Thanks ,Mart.

I just took some pics. But for now, the slots are on the strengthening rib just below the rear window area, where the ribs start sticking further out. I'll see if I can get them up here but it's late here now, I think it may have to wait until tomorrow.

Mart.

Edit: Pics added:

Seatback with bits sticking up (you can also see it is a steel sprung construction)
One of the slots the seat back slots into.
The seatback slotted in place.

The discerning amongst you may notice a slight shortfall in fit and finish between my truck and Kube's. Please try and ignore the mouse nest remnants in my seat back.

Wow! That is a big help, Mart.
I'll look tomorrow and I'll check my seat springs. They might have some remnants of the "bits" as you call them. I have a phone number for a guy in S. Carolina that can make the bottom frame, which is wood. There may be some light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you Mart.

I have some pix of what is supposed to be seat springs for my 41 pickup. I think that they may not be when comparing them to the pix posted by Mart and Kube. Maybe for the later years with the tank under the seat? Could they be made to work?

Image #4 may be the correct bottom spring, but the backrest spring is not correct for '41.

Does anyone notice noise from the seat back bayonets sliding in the steel slot? How about a fix for it? The slots on my 39 pu are slightly different and make a horrible noise over bumps.

I would take the word from someone called "SofaKing" about seats before just about anyone else!

Place a piece of anti-squeak material between the metal surfaces. I purchase duck cloth at a local fabric store. It is extremely similar to what Ford utilized.

I thought that also, but was confused by Kube's pic where the seat cover wraps the wood frame and is attached. I thought the bottom was hinged to allow storage in the seat riser by lifting the bottom cushion. I found a guy that makes the wood bottom frame ( from original pattern) and it has the compartment access holes. These are shown in Kube's pic. I have seen a picture of the seat bottom lifted to show storage; I just can't remember where. I'm not debating; I'm just trying to figure this out.
