I have an oil chex gauge that clicks on/off with a 9 volt battery test fine,
but does not work when installed and attached to what is supposed to be a nos sender unit.
The amp gauge works ok.

Has anyone used these successfully with a normal Ford oil 50lb pressure sending unit? are they compatible?

You need the correct sending unit that is normally open .The std 50lb sender will not work as it works in reverse. You can get a sending unit off EBAY that will work.I happen to have one and can give you the reference if you want.They are $14 US. I sent you a PM with a link.

Here is the link.If you do a search (oil pressure switch normally open) there are a few that come up. There is one that is even adjustable + a Kawasaki listed.

This link is to the one I have used.Its low pressure so will work if pressure drops to 4 lbs. Lee Kelly in Twin Falls, ID used to service all my Oil Chex gauges and this sender worked.He passed away this past April.You will need an adapter as its 1/8 NPT.

Well today I dug out an old original sender unit that i thought was well passed its use by date.
A good clean up, fitted it to the block and low and behold it works fine so my problem is solved and my dual gauge works like it should.
So much for the supposedly nos unit I had, obviously faulty and it also appeared to leak as well.

Graham I had one of my chex gauges rebuilt by a firm in Christchurch. worked fine wth a 9v battery but not when installed in the car -I know the sensor is good as was working fine previously with my other rough gauge -I took the gauge out and it wouldn't work with a 6v battery -I think the idiots restored it wth a 12V electromagnet !
