Re: 1930 Roadster on ebay. Thoughts please.
Ronn is absolutely correct, I think some are not looking at this the right way.
With some of the opinions about modification and hot rodding being taboo, I see this differently. What is it worth to find an un-molested car, basically time capsule for 40 years. Yes, it will take work and lots of love. It is a canvas that some dream about. Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth...........J

Re: 1930 Roadster on ebay. Thoughts please.
I’m from California and bought a Model A from a chap in New York. There are no pink slips for cars of that vintage in NY. It had some type of Title and a registration. A good friend told me to go to our local AAA office, and ask for someone familiar with vintage cars. The man I met with was very helpful & much easier to work with than the DMV. After filling out a few forms & undergoing a brief inspection, I got a pink slip. I would highly recommend using the Auto Club.

very true Terry. NY only uses registrations on pre 1973 cars- same as a title though.
Cali is the only state I know, that lets you use AAA and for 70 they process all of your paperwork. well worth it! |

Terry, How long ago was this? AAA hasn't done VIN verifications for a few years as far as I know.

Re: 1930 Roadster on ebay. Thoughts please.
Agree. Nice to see a Standard Roadster.
To me $10K was a fair offer, BUT if I were selling, if I was on the other side of the deal, I'd want a bit more. Looks like a pretty decent car. Looks solid. You don't get much of a collector car today for 10 G especially a '30-'31 Ford Model A Roadster. Hang in there he may take your offer. If not they are out there keep looking and good luck. If you get the car I'd just detail it, make sure it is safe. Brakes-front end-wiring and then enjoy the car. Drop the oil pan and clean that out good maybe have someone help you check the main and rod bearing clearances while you are in there.Change the tranny fluid and rear end, flush out the radiator and gas tank all the usual things to do. Keep it a Standard Roadster it wil get plenty of attention just the way it is! |

That seems a little high, but it's not outrageous. Try to put one together for that price. You wouldn't even get a good start.

Re: 1930 Roadster on ebay. Thoughts please.
Is this like your neighbor just sold his house and got more for it than you think you could get for yours?
I’ve been in sales for over 40 years. My advise has always been to start high, you can always go down. Difficult to go up. We all have our reasons for buying something. Most Model A’s have been around the block any number of times. Many owners, unknown quality of repair, on and on. I would pay a premium for any car owned long term by a single owner. This car seems to have great history. Do you think finding a car like this is common? It was what someone was liking for. You can’t make this one up from a bunch of different cars or car parts. It is what it is! I would get it running good and than leave it alone. No paint, interior, top, etc. Enjoy. Last edited by WHN; 08-23-2020 at 03:58 PM. |

Re: 1930 Roadster on ebay. Thoughts please.
You would think a car sitting in a barn would have better paint than what we're seeing on that car. Looks like it sat outside for awhile.
Eh, throw another $15k in parts and $25k for paint and bodywork and you'd have a.... $20k roadster. |

I know someone in South Jersey who has a 31 deluxe roadster original paint that was taken completely apart in the 60's by his uncle. The car is still apart sitting in the garage.

Re: 1930 Roadster on ebay. Thoughts please.
Take your time and find another one closer to where you live.
That car is also on what appears to be someones used car lot. I have bought cars sight unseen before. Guess I just got lucky. Not the best thing to do. As far as registration and title here in Commifornia, the last vehicle I got titled through AAA with a bill of sale only was in 2010. Make sure the vin doesn't come back to anything. If you have a friend in law enforcement, have him run the vin and plate. If it comes back to nothing, nobody seems to care. Tom L. |

Re: 1930 Roadster on ebay. Thoughts please.
One other thing to consider when buying a model A. Will you fit? I am 6' 4" and it is very uncomfortable and even dangerous to drive some models. My Fordor, with some seat and shifter mods is very comfortable. Open cars or pickup, no no no. Go to a club meet and talk to the owners, sit in cars, etc.
