33,34,and 35 Spare Tire Cover Dimensions and related Tire Sizes
Does anyone have dimensions for 1933, 1934 and 1935 Ford Spare Tire covers and the corresponding tire sizes these fit? I have a 1934 Ford Fordor with a spare tire mount but without a spare tire and want to purchase a spare tire cover, and then a wheel and tire to fit. I figure I will start with the cover, as that is harder to find. Once I have that, the wheel and tire should be simple. I see some original covers on line but the dimensions reported seem to be all over the map, and I'm not sure they really have the correct year identified - or that it is really for a Ford. The spare doesn't necessarily need to be for a 34, as my car has 15" aftermarket wire wheels, so likely anything I get won't be a functional spare - just for looks.
What I would like to know is the OD and ID of the face cover, and the width and OD of the tread cover for 33, 34 and 35 - and what tire size corresponds to these. I know that 33 & 34 wheels are 17" and 35 wheels are 16". |

Re: 33,34,and 35 Spare Tire Cover Dimensions and related Tire Sizes
The 33,34,and35 face plates have stainless trim rings. The first one I found for my car was 27 3/4 X15 7/8 and it just didn't seem large enough in diameter to work. Then I found one 28 3/16 X 15 and it fit perfect. I will admit I've found a lot of different sizes while searching.

Re: 33,34,and 35 Spare Tire Cover Dimensions and related Tire Sizes
Hi Jim, 1933 & 1934 face plates measure 28 1/4" outside diameter. Centre opening is 15 3/4" across. 1935 face plate is 27 1/4" outside diameter with a centre opening of 14 3/4" across. I think the tire tread covers are all the same except for the pressing raised up section hump (34 is wider than 33) and the 33 has a stainless ring moulding around it mounted in the centre of the hump. The stainless moulding or trim on the faceplates are different widths between 33/34 and 35. 1933-34 is 9/16" wide. 1935 is more narrow at 3/8" wide. Trim rings on 1935 are held to the face plate with spring clips and 34 has threaded fasteners with nuts on the back of the face plate. I have noticed very slight variations in these measurements on various covers and trims but the above is a pretty good guide. Regards, Kevin.

Re: 33,34,and 35 Spare Tire Cover Dimensions and related Tire Sizes
The outer bands for all three years are different. The circumferential bead on the '33 beneath the stainless steel moulding is smaller in width than that of a '34 without a moulding. The wider (6.00 x 16) tire size of the '35 required a wider band than the '33-'34s which had 5.25 X 17 tires (5 3/4" width versus 5 1/2" for '33-'34 tire bands).

Re: 33,34,and 35 Spare Tire Cover Dimensions and related Tire Sizes
Jim G., Here is a summary of 35/36 Spare Tire Covers. This summary includes covers for 6.00 x 16, 6.50 x 16 and 5.50 x 16 tires. This should help a little in weeding thru the covers.
