Default 1930 CCPU wood bed rails

Those who are a little older may remember that old time 2 x 4s were 3 3/4" x 1 3/4" which happens to be the original width and height of the original 1930 wood bed strips.

Now, as most modern folk know, 2 x 4s are now 3 1/2"X 1 1/2".

My question is: Can the modern White Oak 2 x 4s be used for the bed rails?

Most of us here are old enough to remember when a 2x4's dimensions were, ....ummm, 2 inches by 4 inches!!
