That is the PTO on the right side of the transmission, for driving the pump, for the dump bed. This truck only has single speed rear end. Regards, Chris

folks,
Rain again today. I am going to the shop to work on the wood frames for the 32 truck seats. I have them roughed out to shape. Considering the attachment methods at the joints. (Translate that into: they may not be as Henry made them). Its going to be my own design but will be strong and stout. I will get pictures along the way. I am a jack of all trades and a master of none. Wood working is not one of my better areas. May get over to work on the engine / transmission review also. I have my work table cluttered that the engine/ trans should be laying on to work these apart. Another project to work on! ![]() Hope things are good in Ford land! Regards, Chris

Ford Barn folks,

I'm no wood worker but maybe using a Kreg jig would have made the jointing process stronger/easier?

That is the plan! Great minds think alike! I have the jig borrowed from my friend Bob, ex Model A guy, now 55 Ford Crown Vic guy. I plan to router in a 3/16 pocket into the top inside edge for a piece of Luan plywood to be mounted. Glued and brad nailed. This should support the springs and insulate them from the top of the tank. Also router a lip into/ around the underside of the frames for the fabric to be attached. Then fit and fasten the springs to the wood base. Do I need them now with the engine out? Not really. Just keeps the project moving. regards, chris

If you add plywood to the top of the seat frames you likely should provide a couple of vent holes. There's a good reason why the original cardboard beneath the springs had vent holes in it. When you sit on the springs, you compress the air within the cushion and without vent holes undue stress is placed on the material on the sides of the finished seats and to where that material is attached to the bottom of the wood frame leading to premature failure of the material and/or its attachment. |

Yes I think a biscut joint connection would work very well for this joint too! Beinfg too cheap to go buy one I will try the Kreg screw joint for added strength. Yes the vent holes, makes good sense about the air moving out. I did figure out what the big hole was for in the drivers seat base. There is a bump in the tank that needs clearance. I will add some air vent holes in the thin ply wood too. Thanks ! Regards, Chris

Might want to cover the vent holes with 1/4" hardware cloth to keep the mice out of a perfect nest.

If you need parts for the pto, I have a full rebuilt unit (not much to them a couple bushings and a couple gears) and levers. (32-37 4 speed) Just let me know. Kept them if I was going to run a carnival ride off my truck.
![]() On the farm my folks would weld a wheel to the outside of model A's wheel to run farm equipment. Block up the rear and set the steering accelerator lever. That's my 15yr dad over the motor and his city uncle and kids insisting on a picture of the runabout. haha. He ran a local plowing service after grandfather died when dad was 11-12. You can see on the rear there is a welded extra wheel on the outside. Pops was diagnosed MS when I was small (5-6) so some of the car shenanigans stopped sort of, but we kept the farm. I have one of my mom buzzing wood with a car jacked up and a belt on the rear wheel. Times were tough. Expecting a visit today from the previous 32 truck owner and his wife. Should be some good visiting too. May learn some more about the trucks history in the area. Larrys uncle owned a water well drilling company near Conneaut Lake PA. Sorry to take you off in the weeds! Last night was a guys get away for tractor pulling. Big kids playing in the dirt with old orange tractors. We brought home 2 firsts, a second and a third place with two tractors entering 8 classes. 3500, 4000, and 4500 lb classes. Folks,
After several hours thinking about the seat frames I believe I will over design as usual and lay a 3/16 sheet of luan over the top and then make a 3/16 thick insert inside the frame. This should make a very sturdy frame for the rest of the trucks life. Have to prototype it tomorrow. It will make the seat just a tad higher but I can move the seat back up if I need to. Love it when a plan comes together. This saves rabbiting the inside of the frame and will be way stronger. When the previous owner and his wife visited today they brought a special item. ![]() It is another piece of the story of this truck! A crate that has markings that tell us this engine in the truck is probably not the original one. ![]() We think the rebuilt MOD B engine came in this box. The ship to location is about 40 miles south of me. ![]() Regards, Chris

I believe the previous owner(s) did the right thing in preserving a bit of history by putting this truck in your hands. If I weren't some 3000 miles away I'd like to shake their hands and pet that beautiful oldtimer dog.

When Larry and his wife Diane I met we kind of hit it off. I think he felt the truck was going to be in another good place. They were happy to see it, and took some pictures. Liked the new rubber. Was interested in the engine area. He also confirmed that his Uncle did have milk cans around that he probably hauled water in, which might match the shape of the rings worn into the bed behind the cab. They may have a picture of the truck at a job site where Mr Litewiller (sp) was drilling a water well. Larry also mentioned that this may have been a township truck prior to his uncle owning it. Maybe the reason the paint color is a shade different on the doors?? Maybe was repainted over a logo??? The plot thickens! ![]() Yes Maggie loves new folks coming to visit. She is 8, but very white in the face. A great dog. We love the Goldens! Folks, Any suggestions on the water pump disassembly? I have not been able to get the fan/ pulley assembly off to inspect the shaft yet. I believe it is a tapered shaft and key. Much to do today. Maybe a little on the 32? Regarding the water pump, the fan comes off first and yes, it is a tapered, keyed, fit. After that loosen the die cast zinc packing nut and the shaft with the impeller on the end can be withdrawn from the rear of the pump body. |

Thanks. That water pump may need some attention? Good talking with you today. So the seats progress a little. ![]() Will trim the corners after the glue dries on the luan plywood. Slso added additional Kreg pocket screws since I will not be inseting the plywood. Now two in each joint. The plywood was nailed to the frame with small brads from a air nailer. Should be stroung enough for anothe 100 years! ![]() Rain again today, our view to the west from the shop setting behing the 32: ![]() Also removed the engine from the transmission. Next will be the clutch and pressure plate. Regards, Chris

After the evening nap and the Great grandsons visiting with their friends. I got back on these seat frames. They may need a couple more vent holes along the sides for air to escape. Other than that they are ready to go to the upholstery shop. He has the fabric. Feels like getting the cart in front of the horse with the engine not even apart. But if completed the seats will allow one more thing to be checked off the long list too.
