Default 46-48 Ford drag link

I want to make sure that I'm doing this right.
I found this pic on the interwebs, and it seems to fit better than any other way that I've tried.

Looks right. Here's a link to VanPelt's page for 42-48 linkage:

I look at the diagram & to me it shows both ends of the tire rod pointing up & both ends of the drag link pointing down. The taper where the drag link hooks at both ends seem to verify the down angle. What am I missing ?

That's what I was thinking too but it puts the adjustable end of the drag link really close to the wishbone if it's pointing down on the spindle side.

It sure does Topher 5150 but the taper on my car would not allow reversing it. The ford parts book also shows it pointing down. Not sure but I think the pitman arm is also on a taper.
I will get under my 48 & check but I think maybe the adjustable end goes on pitman arm ?

I went and looked at my 48 Merc because I think the drag link runs really close to the wish bone. You cannot point up because there is no taper on the bottom of either the pitman arm or the rod near the wheel. Won't work without drilling new tapers.

I couldn't get under it very well, but this is how close it gets. I got it to wiggle a little way down but I'm sure after it's tightened I'll get a little more clearance.

Just about everything in that photo appears to be non-stock or modified. The axle is dropped, spindles modified, wishbone ends modified, non-stock shock absorbers, etc..

You need to stop and take inventory of what you have. As Randy points out you seem to have a "mix and match" of after market components. Figure out your tapers on the spindle arm and pitman arm and the direction they are facing and you can start from there.

Yes, the spindles appear stock, but the axle is in fact a dropped axle. You might want to invest in the V-8 Club's '41-48 Ford book. Lots of good information in there on your car.

I got under my 48 today to check drag link mounting, the way mine is mounded is adjustable end at pitman arm, both ends pointing down & gives you about 1 inch between drag link & wish bone. If you notice there is a slight bend at adjustable end which helps it lay nice on top of pitman arm. Been that way for 28 years no problems. I know the green book shows it going the other way but this works for me.
