Default Small bore 59a ?

Can a 3.062 bore 59a be safely taken out to 3.248 for a 265 build? Inclined to think yes provided the block castings are all the

Absolutely, took several to 3.312. Not sure why Ford did this, but to be safe, have it sonic tested.

I just had a 40 block bored to 3 3/16 (3.1875) std, with my merc crank gives me 255 cu in, did not want to chance going more with that block. I think your block could go more than the older block.

Your definitely safe going to 3-3/16 done it many times myself exactly like Kurt wrote above. Adding a Merc crank and your at 255 cubes. Only ten less cubes than the 265 idea.

My block bored after sleeves removed to 3.1875 still left a slight ridge from the sleeve lip, a little bevel at cyl edge and pistons are going in OK.

It is advisable to have ANY block sonic tested and magnafluxed before ANY machine work is done.
Cheaper in the long run.

Nowdays it usually takes 5 blocks before you find a good one.

Yup. 3 3/8 for stock rebuilds. 3 7/16 for hot rods.
Standard hot rods got 4 1/8 crank, 425 cam, 4 pots and an H&C mag.

Nice one Pete. Built several 3 7/16 X 4 engines, one is still running. I also have a 296 engine that's still running, and it has Hyperutectic pistons in it. Only set I ever saw, baught them at the Yorl flea market back in the 90's
