I have not changed out the coil. I'll look into doing that also.

You could just get one of those inexpensive "Blue Flame" 6V coils, with the built-in resistor, and hook that up for an easy check of the coil. Regardless, that will then provide you with a "spare" that you can take with you in your emergency tool kit.

Do you mean "Blue Streak"? I could not find any "Blue Flame" coils.

I think he was referring to the "Bosch Blue" coils that were on Amazon a while back. They even had a special on them a couple of years ago when they sold them out quite cheaply ( I think it was a "closeout", as they don't list them anymore.

Search for 6 V Volkswagen coils.

Yes, I meant to say BLUE STREAK. I bought this one about two weeks ago off the shelf at my local Car Quest. Cost about $25.
