Default 1940 Ford Coupe--looking for CAD drawing of outer shell

I am trying to build an outer shell in the shape of a 1940 Ford that will be set on the chassis and roll cage like the body of a top fuel funny car, that is, it will hinge up all in one peice.

I need a CAD file of the body as a whole, not the individual body parts. I already have plenty of drawings and rendering, but I need something that will give me the x/y/z coordinates and all the elevations.

Thanks
Steve

Model car makers like Mattel use a planimeter(sp) type devise to construct a 3D profile of a real car when designing their models. Perhaps you could get your 3D profile that way. There is also a new technique called 3D printing that can provide you with a 3D image of an object. Not sure if they can handle something as large as a full scale car. A couple ideas off the top of my head. Hope this can help you.........40larry

I don't know where you would get it but there is laser based scanning technology that would scan an actual car and give you CAD drawing (or file). Jim in San Jose.

While back there were a couple of video strips posted of a modeled 40 coupe that looked fairly close to real. Might be able to contact the programmer. Any fiberglass modeling I have done was taken off of actual bodies or parts.

Yeah, and here is the best of them in the link, below! Try looking into "Mods for Assetto Corsa" for some more info on this creation. DD

Man, that's weird! IF you click on the 'moving dot' at bottom of video (that moves left to right) and move it all the way to the left, it will play. ANYWAY, click on THIS link and it should play in it's entirety! Sorry guys! DD

I FIXED it above, also!

That works!! No idea what he would be using for a data base, but it looks good.

Not only that, but whomever did this has some REAL, old 'hot rod' knowledge as well as an understanding of how vehicles actually perform under performance-driving conditions. The only thing 'they' didn't get right on this one is the lack of banjo rear end and no I-beam in front! And, on their videos showing the driver on the inside of car, the driver DOESN'T shift gears with his hands....pisser! See the other '40 below showing "inside" views. DD

That 40 sure can handle - all in second gear by the position of the shift lever.

Still very cool and fun to watch.
