Default What Tools/Parts Should One Carry In Your Model A

As my 1929 tudor has reached the point in it's restoration, and that summer is approaching, what should I pack in my "go bag" in the line of tools/parts for a trip to town?

These journeys would be for 100 miles or less over secondary roads with some gravel included.

What would you feel comfortable carrying with you, (besides towing insurance)?

flashlight, needlenose pliers with cutters, bailing wire, small flathead screwdriver, medium flathead screwdriver, jack, foot square 3/4" plywood to put under the jack (hot asphalt or squishy mud is fun to put a jack on), crescent wrench are the bare minimum i have in all my vehicles. i carry a phillips and a t-10 screwdriver to change out headlight on my s10 if need be. especially on gravel roads ive had rocks kick up and take out a headlight/foglight. how rocks kick up when im the only one on the road and do that ill never know...

have had a few exhausts fall off, flat tires in less than ideal locations, etc

if you properly restored and went thru everything (bulbs to brakes) and have a clean rust free gastank shouldnt need to carry many parts. maybe a spare lugnut or two wouldnt hurt. spare taillight/brakelight/headlight bulb wouldnt be bad either. not every store carries 6v bulbs anymore.

For us, a mobile phone is essential with AA Plus membership which ensures a free truck ride home, although I have to say that for the few times we've needed assistance, we've generally been out of range of a cell tower.
Next week we leave for two weeks in the South Island in our speedster, mid winter and no hood/soft top. should prove an interesting challenge, the car has been on the road almost 6 months now and most of the bugs have been ironed out.
I expect we'll do almost 3000 miles, taking a head gasket, rear hub puller, spark plugs and condenser plus a reasonable range of tools.
In recent times, of the 160 cars attending the Irishman's Creek Rally, 60 have been Model A's

Normally I carry the original toolkit and an AA card . I did 3000 miles round the south Island in my 1934 V8 with the original toolkit , my AA car and a spare Carb, Distributor, coil, condenser and spark plug set . Only thing I used was the AA card when 50 miles from home we put a fan blade through the radiator and broke the inlet manifold - Bad day -Karl

Seems no matter how much you plan, the tool you need is always back at the shop!

A competent mechanic and/or companion is also highly recommended.

Cell phones do not work everywhere, there is several spots I know of locally it doesn't matter who you have as a carrier it just has no signal at all.

I learned with AAA with my modern when I needed them on a Sunday afternoon they tried calling everywhere and noone would come out. They were still trying to locate someone to after 2+ hours. Luckily some MacGyvering and help from a friendly farmer got me back to town.

I agree but I have never needed either. In over 25 years only one breakdown and that was a flat tire. Keep the car well maintained and you should have very little to worry about. Wayne

Yep, that's my feeling. So far I haven't needed anything on the road, but a spare coil, condenser, and fan belt would be about all I could think of to carry under the seat.
