1940 Ford P/U bed subframe
I am rebuilding my bed and have purchased all the subframe pieces. Is there a reference as to where the two cross members go? How far from the front/rear or distance between each other. I have searched the internet and came up with a few pictures that provide correct orientation but nothing about where they are located along the sub frame. Thanks

Peruse the drawings on this Google search.

Re: 1940 Ford P/U bed subframe
I have purchased the replacement wood for the cab and the bed. I also purchased the sub frame rails for the bed along with the two cross members and the rear piece that attach to the sub frame. I'm looking for info on where the cross members attach to the sub frame. I have some pictures but wanted to know if anyone knew exactly where these went. i.e. front cross member goes X inches from the cab etc. Sorry if I'm not clear.

Re: 1940 Ford P/U bed subframe
I have a lot of footage from redoing the floor in my pickup. I haven't edited it into a video yet, though.
As stated above, the wooden crossmembers are located above holes in the frame. The front one sits at the front of the side members for the bed, they are about 4" back from the front of the bed. The rear locates on the holes in the rear corner of the frame, between two big rivets. There is a small (about 1/4") hole in the side rail in line with where the wooden crossmember goes. The two intermediate metal crossmembers sit above holes in the frame either side of the hump where the frame goes over the axle. Are you using all new parts? Do you have no old pieces or rivet holes to guide you? I can get some actual dimensions from my 41 if you can say exactly what you need. Mart. |

I"m using all new re-pop parts for the bed wood and the inner bed frame. The original one I have was install incorrectly. More to follow. Red

Don't know if this will help but here is a drawing that I made of my wood subframe. If you want a better copy pm me your email.

I knocked this together this morning. Excuse the bed hair and generally scruffy appearance. That's just me.
