Default Broken manifold stud fix?

While trying to find an intake leak I decided to remove my manifolds. As I tried to loosen the second nut from the front it snapped. I can see it must have been bent from a previous install. I can tell two of the studs and brass nuts were newer with loctite.

Not the best way to start 2017! I'm not great with a torch so I'm thinking about drilling the center of the stud but don't want to hit to water jacket behind it. Any suggestions?

I would try Jerry's Broken Drill and Tap Removal, (714) 836-6824.

Hi 29,

Any friendly Model A owners nearby?

Could be as fast as a tooth extraction with an experienced stud remover who could visit to "see" exactly what you have.

29Phaeton, I have removed a lot of studs on different manifolds IF you have any of the stud still sticking out so you can use a stud remover or vice gripes to get hold of it.
Use a torch and heat just the stud red hot, and then take a spray bottle and spray the stud with water, it will come right out.

Is there any stud left? I have a stud puller but it needs about ¾" of stud to grab.

Have an experienced welder tig weld an extension to the broken stud. Then treat with penetrant and try to loosen it.

I got lucky, I was able to drill it and use an easy-out. Thanks to everyone who suggested their own technique. As a newbie it's great to have the community support when needed.

I agree thanks! I heated up the stud with a torch as I tried to back it out and that worked.

Using an Easy Out? I thought you would have better chance at winning the
lottery. Glad you got it out though.
