Motorcycle Tubes

Has anyone used motorcycle tubes for the Model A? I see 4.50x19 (110/120/90-19) tubes available and was wondering if they would be better quality for 1930-31 rims?

Thought about it especially after patching brand new Korean tubes! The motorcycle tube seem to be better quality, so, I guess if the are big enough to fill the void why not?

I know that I will be buying motorcycle tubes the next time.
I bought four new tires and tubes from Coker Tire, for my 1935 Ford (16") and two tires went flat. My tire shop guy showed me where two tubes failed, in the seams, on my foriegn made tunes.

I don't think the valve stems will be correct unless you are going to replace them with metal stems.

Most MC tubes have a threaded stem w/a nut to secure it to the rim.ken ct.

I used some on my Model A on a trip through the desert on the way to the Grand Canyon in 1985. Worked great. I think they are the solution to the problem with foreign tubes

Does anyone know if 21" motorcycle tubes are available that will fit 28/29 A's? I would rather not buy the cheap foreign tubes after what I have heard about them.

Popular wisdom among motorcyclists is that the non-Asian tubes are more tear-resistant, but leak more air.

Most MC 21" tube are meant for the front wheel on a bike so are on the narrower side compared to the rear which are always smaller diam.but fatter. OMO ken ct. Natural rubber tubes DO seep air over time as they are slightly pourus.

Once in an out of town emergency, I used a front tire tube for an 8n or 9n Ford tractor. Bought it at a Firestone store in Joplin, MO. Had to cut down the outside diameter if the stem some, but it got me home.

As mentioned, be sure the MC tube has a stem "off center" so it won't bind.

Aren't Model A stems centered?

You are right ! My 16" V8 wheels are NOT centered. I would have a problem with motorcycle tubes.

My first A was actually an AA, with 650x20 tires with split rims. Only tube available one time was an 18" something or another. It was quite a stretch, but it was enough to get us home.

I was having big problem with flats about 2 years ago with 19" tires flats about 3 time per month. Don't remember where I got the new tubes but they were bad. Aired one new tube up and mounted on rim and when flat complete in 5 minutes , pulled it back out and 6" split folloeing the seam. These were not ordered from Brattons like I do normally. Bought 5 new ones from Brattons in 8-1-2011 and not one leaking tire yet that's been 19,000 miles and all good, they advertise as 100 % by OEM manufacture with new rubber not recycled. have fun modelAtony

What about the stems in the tubes sold by suppliers is correct? You stil don't have a correct stem.I think MC tubes are a very viable solution to leaking tubes.

I used motorcycle tubes in my front T-bucket tires and they worked very well and did not leak. Actually I used 19in. MC tires on it too. They worked great and handled pretty well.

I bought new tires and tubes from Coker distributer in California and had 7 flat tires due to tubes splitting in the drop center.Those tubes were made in Denmark and much thicker than most.

Stopped along the way and bought tubes from Snyder and Bratton and they are still going strong after 5 years and about 20,000 miles. Both Bratton and Snyders tubes were made in China.
