Electronic distributor
Hello all!
Please share pictures or videos of the installation of electronic distributors (1939 Ford pickup, but any info for flatheads around that year will help). I want to change the original distribution to a new one due to issues for which I can't find a solution. I have basic knowledge of automotive repair. Last edited by Fech; 11-05-2023 at 07:18 AM. |

Re: Electronic distributor
If you put that distributor on there you won’t be pleased. Stick with points or get a stromberg e-fire. I won’t go away from points but if I had to the efire is the only one with a proper advance curve and module that will hold up

Re: Electronic distributor
Hi. Got a 1933 stock engine with stock points distributor (rebuilt by Michael @thirdgenauto). Engine runs like a charm, purrs like a kitten. I would not go electronic for a million...

Re: Electronic distributor
Please explain in detail what the problem is with what you have. I know of no problem with a stock distributor that cannot easily be solved. Whatever your problem is, there absolutely IS a solution. Like Michael said, don't waste your money on the pictured distributor.

Re: Electronic distributor
Please elaborate on your problem. There are several on this board that can help you.
At the least, so that if you do install the pointless distributor, you will not have the same problems. Ford's dual point distributor should be fine, could you an overhaul, 3rd Gen can help with that. If you decide to go with the electronic distributor, choose one that is not made in china, it will be el crapola. Was at SEMA this week and there are a ton of china and india vendors selling their crap.

Re: Electronic distributor
My guess is what was made in China 8 years ago is vastly superior to what is being made there now.

Re: Electronic distributor
Thank you all for the replies!
The pickup is located abroad, where I can't find parts, or experts that calibrate the distributors, so I would prefer using the ready-to-go dizzy. My engine was working well, but when I installed new caps, rotor, points, sparkplugs, and condenser, the engine started to backfire. |
