Default What battery are you using?

The green book calls out the battery size for my 1937 pickup as 10.5 x 7.125 x 7.25. Most batteries that I look at are taller. Also curious if anyone has tried some of the light weight batteries, or agm. Seems that a battery that fits my height restriction is not as wide or deep to look right.

I'm using a big tractor battery in the 52 Merc. It does not fit the case but that is the trade off for the extra cranking amps. The battery is 7 years old now and I'm thinking might be getting near the end of it's life. Might consider replacing it with a battery that fits the battery case next time. The Merc starts pretty good.

Does anyone have experience with the $365.00 batteries? What causes them to be so expensive?

I use a group 2 battery from Oreilleys auto parts. Cranks my 85 hp 37 fast and starts well even after sitting for a month. It is a little taller but still fits well.

Not sure what $365 batteries you are referring to. Lithium ion? AGM? OE replicas? If it’s OE replicas I would expect that low production numbers drives the price. They likely involve a lot of labor, custom fabrication.

I have the one on the upper left, in my 53' Merc and the one in the lower right in my wifes 1970 Cougar XR-7. Mine has lasted 13 years and hers as been in there for almost 20 years now. The have Optimas in them.

I just put the same battery in my ‘41 last week, they were the only ones to have a group 2 6 volt in stock in my area.
