Shackle pin, heads up
Recently bought and installed a set of 51A-5713 rear shackle pins in the '40. These were Ford script, USA. They measured anywhere from .753 to .756 OD, and I believe the variance in OD was what appeared to be galvanize plating. It was so thick on the .756 ones that the nut would not thread on the shackle stud. I have not seen galvanizing on any of the shackle pins I have used before, so this was new to me. The lesson learned here was check the OD on each one, and if needed, take a little of the galvanize off, and by all means, before you install them, run a nut on the shackle threads. It was tough to run a die over the threads once they were in the spring perch.

Ford used different metals for the casing on these pins. Terne plated steel, I believe, was the most common.

Terry, like you, I'd never seen them plated.

Re: Shackle pin, heads up
I have never seen any shackles plated either. They were stamped Ford USA, and came from 3rd gen, and I was happy to get the original type. I would have posted a picture, but they were already installed when i thought of it.
