Stupid Question About Overdrive Solenoids
I apologize for such a stupid question...how do you tell the difference between a 6 volt solenoid and a 12 volt solenoid? I have 1 of each, and was told that 1 is a 6 volt, and the other a 12 volt. They look identical outside and inside, and they have the same number stamped on the outside (10AR10B-62). Help me please. Thanks!

Assuming they are both in good working condition... hook them up to 6v and the one that responds better is the 6v one. The 12v one on 6v might be sluggish? Once upon a time they may have had a '6v' or '12v' ink stamp on them so look carefully. (edit) I was told (by one of the T-Bird resto houses) the 12v ones should have '12v' stamped into the metal of the housing, with no voltage marking on the 6v ones. And... that it doesn't really matter, the 6v ones work fine on 12v. Here's a page with a list of part numbers, and their voltage. It looks like you have the 6v version. http://www.hemmings.com/magazine/hmn...s/3689641.html and way more info than you asked for... https://www.google.com/search?q=ford...utf-8&oe=utf-8 .
