I saw this very interesting Ford at the 2014 Early Ford V-8 Club of America Central National Meet at Springfield, IL.

That's not even on the same planet as allowing strange grown men in restrooms with our young daughters.

I remember when we were looking at Len Southwards in Lower Hut or it could be Upper Hutt Wellington N.Z. collection in the 1960's, there was a black long wheel base 1946-47 Ford V8 sedan in a collection on a section there, wonder where it is today.

Bob, There are restorers that specialize in what they call Professional Cars. Not sure if any restored hearses have been put to duty lately, though!

I like the way you think, too! If I'd have thought about it, I'd have had one for our recently celebrated 50th wedding anniversary! All we had was an Elvis Impersonator, though.

About 20 years ago a friend of mine passed away. His son was president of a local car club that had a 1958 Cadillac hearse that was used to haul PA equipment for car shows. The family used the club hearse to take the body from the church for internment. Wouldn't have been my choice, but that is why they make chocolate and vanilla.

I'd rather walk than be hauled to a cemetery in a stinking Cadillac!

i have a '42 ford ambulance that was converted by weller brothers, i think out of tennessee. it has a 158" wheelbase, has been mildly street-rodded but is still set up for flatheads. tilt wheel, more modern dash and is for sale in vermont.

Here is a '46 or early '47 ambulance that looks similar to the hearse that the OP posted. I took these photos in 2010 south of Grand Junction Colorado coming back from Durango.

Swoop this will be it. It was built by Gerry Nichols of Hutt Valley Rod and Kustom club in late 70's early80's. When I originally saw it it was on some persons front lawn in Stokes Valley. It was light blue and had the original wheels with side windows and 2 door rear entry. suspect it was custom bodied here in NZ from a 4door sedan off the line at the old Seaview plant.

The long wheel base 1946 - 48 Ford V8 sedan Sedan I seen in the 1960,s was being stored outside on a section with other cars at Len Southwards first museum in Lower Hutt. It definitely had a Ford sedan front and back.,

Ian I saw a black long wheel base 46/48 car parked on High Street outside Taita Intermediate in the late 80's, pretty sure that was a vehicle of the "body snatcher" variety probably the same one.....wonder where it went to?

If you get the Hearse, you really need to get a flower car to go with it. This is a 1940 Model.

Graeme that sounds like the same car, if I remember correctly it was a bit longer but not as long as the hearse shown here, yes where is it now, it did not look like a hearse as the back was the same shape as a normal V8.

Yes Ian exactly my recollection. The whole back opened up like a hatch-back from what I recall not sure how it was hinged though.

Never seen a 1948 Ford Hearse, but I was watching "The Son's of Katy Elder" the other day and they had a really nice funeral buggy in the movie.
