PTO knowledge
Attachment 459155Attachment 459155I have a 1932 BB Dump truck and the transmission has a pto on the side. I know it is the same as the AA. I also have a 72 Chevy c-20 pickup and just noticed there was a pto port on the side of the transfer case. I was wondering if this was the same port that was on my BB. Is it possible that it was a universal across the industry or is it wishful thinking on my part? The picture on the right is the Chevy transfer case port. The picture on the left is a AA transmission port.

Re: PTO knowledge
Ports were the same for many years but gears changed from spur cut to helical cut. Sometimes a spacer was needed between the 2 cases.

Re: PTO knowledge
There were some std pto applications but at some point there was a change and I believe it was in the gear cut. You have to be very careful in fitting up a PTO to the main gearbox and make sure there is a slight bit of play in the gears. That is done by varying the number of gaskets to attach it.

Re: PTO knowledge
Sorry I can’t help with you question. I installed a Chelsea PTO on a ‘76 one ton with a 4-speed. The port looks similar to yours on the transfer case. I remember using multiple gasket to get the pto to the proper spacing......I have a couple or three PTO’s from early Ford dump trucks......... Mark
