Will 1956 Thunderbird Rear tail light lenses fit a 1955 Ford Fairlane?

Short answer: NO

Long answer: The 55 and 56 Fords (thunderbirds share the same taillight as passenger cars and wagons) had a different chrome housing for the lens. Although the footprint (diameter of the chrome housing) is the same where it mounts to the sheet metal, the 56 has a wider lens than the 55, so the inset on the 56 chrome housing is wider than the inset on the 55. Hope this makes sense.

Maybe google 55 or 56 Ford lenses and tail lights to see what I mean. It is hard to tell if you are not familiar with the cars.

Here are pictures of the two different year Ford Tail Lights. The top photo shows the 1955 model, while the bottom photo shows the 1956 model. They are completely different.

I never realized the tail lamps were that different. That photo really puts them into perspective.

You can sort of put them 'on' but the 56 lens is a bigger diameter and they don't fit 'in' a 55 housing.
