Bless you folks. I have been out on tour, and had my car quit. Nothing like having a helping hand. I mean nothing like it.

Got back from Erie, lots of nice cars to look at , surprised at the number of cars in the rally , those open speedster cars have to be demanding to drive in all weather conditions, we have a hard time getting some owners to drive 10 miles to a show let alone few hundred in a day, in 1960,s cars!

Have 2 pals in the race. Tom Lafferiere (driver) & Al San Clemente (navigator) in Tom's 39 Packard 120. They are first timers. Couple minor issues with the car but nothing major. AJ notes even a relatively powerful car like the 120 has been challenging. A lot of it is about maintaining speed, hills, twisty roads and hi trsffic areas have been tricky.

Does anyone know the route they will be traveling from Perrysburg, Ohio to South Bend, Indiana?

Lew, my understanding is they get the route 30 minutes before the start, and if your navigating, you spend all of it making notes and prepping. My friends are doing OK, Saturday was the toughest, they got a little lost but hit 4 of 5 checkpoints in pretty good time.

Thanks Steve, I never gave that a thought. I was hoping to find a spot along the route for some pictures, but I may have to go to the Studebaker Museum instead.

I was standing there when you walked up to the owner of the yellow model-A that parked on the south side of the square. You offered him any needed assistance. Bless you!

Will the Great Race be routed through Southern Ill, or West Kentucky this year? I live in Paducah, Ky and the route came by here last year.

I don’t think so, they are going by Chicago and ending in Fargo, ND. They won’t be going as far south as you.

A few years ago when the Great Race started in Jacksonville FL, one of our club members completed it in a '29 Rootleib speedster (with no additional support vehicle!). They called themselves the blue & gray team since they drove the whole race wearing Union & Confederate infantry caps. The race was very rainy that year.

Next year he wanted to do it again but his navigator said no thanks.
So instead he drove the speedster from Jacksonville to Alaska and back towing a home-made plywood camper trailer.

After that adventure he changed the speedster body for a Coupe body.
Said he had enough open-air driving.
