Sold Last Model A
The truck just left. After 42 years we sold our Sport Coupe on Hemmings in just three days.
I got my first Model A in 1962. It’s been a long ride. Many years of family fun. Everything has a time. It was that time. Hopefully going to a great new home. Anyone who thinks there is not a good market for a family owned, stock Model A is wrong. I think it could have been sold five times over. My family is more disappointed than I am. No one to pass it on to. It was time to move it on. Enjoy your cars. |

We are all no more than custodians of these cars for the time being. I'm sure the person who sold WHN the car thought the same - hoping it would go to a good home and be enjoyed. Now that your custodianship is over, another family can enjoy what yours has. It is a cycle that is repeated over and over.

Re: Sold Last Model A
Look at this way, we are just temporary caretakers for our Model A's. Your car now has a new caretaker, who someday will pass it on to the next caretaker.

It is a blessing to share what has blessed you. I still miss my "A" but momma really loves her quartz kitchen counter tops. Enjoy the adventure... Chap

Re: Sold Last Model A
I bought a phaeton a while back from a man getting along in years that said he was trying to downsize,or get out of the A's.I strongly suspect his idea of downsize is like mine, sell one,buy two.Just owning them keeps you active.Walking away from things is not as easy as it sounds. After heating with wood for 40+ years,it is kind of hard to just stop.It was a way of life.Same thing with driving a truck,it hits kind of hard to realize I may never split wood or sit in a truck seat again.Giving up plowing snow was once unthinkable, now it may be possible.Spending 2 hours shoveling out a stuck truck at 3 AM is not as much fun at 65 as it was at 55.

Re: Sold Last Model A
Sad but very true. Some things just have to come to an end, whether you like it or not. I got my first own car at 20 years, still have it now 12 years later. I know I will never sell it, but I can only hope to be able to have fun with it for the next 48 years like you did. I can't even guess the things you must've experienced in your 60 A-years, especially in a time where cell phones weren't invented yet. |

Re: Sold Last Model A
WHN, congratulations on a long rewarding time in the hobby and I hope, a deal on your recent sale that works for you and your buyer. Sometimes it is just time to sell.
On the appeal of a good, stock Model A in today's market, that is a good thing indeed and I agree wholeheartedly. I am seeing at 58, many new A owners I meet are younger than I am, which is nice to see. Good cars sell quickly. It's a good time to be a buyer or a seller which is actually very good for a healthy hobby.
