Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
Looks like the headlights were also modified. If I remember correctly, early Olds?

That '58 wagon with the fender wells cut out is looking pretty good about now.

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
On the 58 wagons the tail gate tail lamp lenses were slightly shorter than the outers to keep them from breaking when tailgate was down. http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/stati...rochure-06.jpg. I think the inner bulbs were 1156 and outer 1157.

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
In this photo from the original Sales Brochure, all 4 Tail Light Lenses seem to be the same length? 5851a suggested that the Inner Ones were shorter? |

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
Maybe only 1/4 inch as original. Dimensions except depth were the same, I don't have parts book that goes back that far for the numbers. Only the wagons were shorter. Hope someone with a parts book or Hollander interchange manual can provide information other than from old memory.

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
For what ever reason, no "true" 1957 or 1958 "big" Fords were sold in Australia during these two years. For 1957, Ford Australia added 1956 Ford Fairlane Trim and called the car a 1957 model. For 1958, our 1958 Fords wore a 1955 Meteor Grille with 1956 Meteor Side Trim.
On that basis, I don't know too much about the regular 1957 and 1958 Fords, as the only ones that I have seen are recent imports, and even they are rare here. |

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
Actually, the T/G LAMPS were longer (incl body) (same lens - inner and outer) to accommodate the optional backup lamps -

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons
So the short one I bought wasn't for a wagon? Ford mechanic told it was a for a wagon since long one would break so I exchanged. Was is possible they had short ones included with Continental kit and that's what I had?

Quote:
By CONT KIT, you are referring to sedan, correct? That would have no bearing on the inner lamp door length. Below are TEXT DESC of both PN's 13448 and 13434. Use them (w BODY CODE) w ILL posted in above post. Make sure I answered that correctly ... |

1958 Ford Station Wagon and Sedan Tail Light Clusters compared. Looking at these two pictures, the Sedan Tail Light Cluster looks longer than the ones on the Station Wagon? |
