Radius Rod Cap
Does anyone know where I might find a radius rod cap for a 1947 Mercury?
I believe 11A-3440 is the part number. Thanks. |

Are you needing this entire TRINGULAR-Shaped adapter piece found on Mercurys, or just a regular old Ford wishbone-ball CAP as seen in BOTTOM pic? Coop . |

The triangular piece is already mounted to the frame on mine.

The "11A-" prefix of that "11A-3440" part number which you quoted tells us that this was a part which was introduced for 1941, being modified or somehow updated from the cap used in 1940. It sure would be interesting to hear from ANYONE knowing what the difference between the two might be. Coop . |

Re: Radius Rod Cap
I certainly could be wrong about the part number.
I have a 99A-3440 that is too small. The hole spacing on the plate that it bolts to is 3 1/2”. Dennis |

Now that is interesting. That "99A-" prefix translates to '39 Mercury SPECIFICALLY - (NOT Ford), and likely carries-over thru 1940 MERC. Sounds like the ball on the '39 & '40 Merc wishbones is somehow smaller than the same year Fords. I do know that '39-'40 Ford and Merc wishbones do not interchange, as the Merc 'bones are longer, front to rear because of the Merc's 4" longer wheelbase. That "11A-" prefix is a Ford prefix (fairly normal Ford Motor Co. numbering methodology when Ford & Merc DID share identical parts). That is likely telling me that Ford finally sized Ford & Merc balls similarly, and are probably the same thru the end of 1948 production......MAYBE! Coop . |
