Default Back from the dark side

Bought a new project from a friend awhile back and just going to get started on a total restore. It`s a 53 Mercury 1/2 ton . Have not had a flathead since the 70s and looking forward to getting back in the saddle. I also have a 46 ford 1/2 ton , it was in very rough shape so a restore was not practical, and I love to drive my fords so I went to modern motor and drive train. Thought that would be the answer . But It`s just not me. If it don`t sell some changes are coming down the road . The 53 has three motors with the deal and all are flat heads so one might find a new home in the 46 too. Can`t get that sound ,feel and smell of a flat head out of my head So I am enjoying this forum very much and the guys on here are having a positive push on my ambition. Thanks.

You are so right! Nothing sounds or runs like a Flathead V-8. Raise the hood at a car show and stand back. I see oldsters grinning from ear to ear and youngsters with a puzzled look.

The next thing they like is the Mother-in-law seat.

Good luck with your projects!

Thanks Shadetree, I can`t wait to get started on the 53. It still has the original paint and patina on it and even the radio is still in the dash key in the ignition . A good unmolested surviver to start on. Some rust in the drivers floor area but very little elsewhere except the box is rough.
