Supplier for 8BA condensers?
I need a good condenser for my l949 Ford. Suppliers now are selling a condenser with a band brt. that goes around the condenser and they will not work. The rotor will not turn with the thing in place. The cond. will go in but the body of the cond. just fits tight against the flat side of the cam, and it will not turn!! Stardard part No. FD75T are made this way and Ecklain (sp.) is the same way that NAPA sells. So what are we to do??????

Re: Supplier for 8BA condensers?
Hmmm...more joy from the world of modern parts.
Screw is on wrong side to allow sliding over by elongating the hole... Six cylinder 250 type Chevies I worked on had a similarly small diameter distributor. If I remember correctly, the condensers had that same 2 piece construction, and the center of the band on the cam side was cut away to add space. A solid center would have put the thing against the cam. A cam's-eye view of the band would have looked about so: [ O ] A touch against the edge of a grinding wheel would hog out that space if just relieving the band would do the job...would that do anything? |

JT,
It won't look correct but why not mount a IH 200 condenser externally on your dist. If you show your car probably only V8 Meet judges would notice. Charlie ny |

Re: Supplier for 8BA condensers?
Bruce, I see what you are saying, but the mounting brt. is to the outside, its the cylinder shape that is into the cam. Some said a FA66 Echin will fit. The NAPA store I went to didn't have it in stock but him puter shows a pix of the one with the removal brt. Maybe I can find a MotorCraft part that is made like the original FoMoCo condenser.....

I'm not having a problem finding condensers for my '50s. Bought an ignition set from Carpenter at the ENM and installed it with no problem. Also have some condensers I bought from C&G, part number 7RA-12300, and they fit and work just fine. By the way, nice dog at the Boone show. Ken
