Re: What’s so great about the Flathead Ford V8?
The looks, the sound, not to mention installed in some of the most beautifully designed cars(and trucks) ever! These cars have style, whereas cars nowadays look Butt ugly IMO.
I’d rather go slow in an early v8, than fast in a modern car. |

Re: What’s so great about the Flathead Ford V8?
In 1964 my first car was a '50 Ford flathead V8, my father and I freshened the motor in the driveway, drove it for a couple of years then sold it. Fast forward to 2016 been looking for a 36-41 flathead for 3 years, financially I settled for a mostly done '41 coupe. The previous owner( in his 80's) put headers on the car, I sometimes stand at the back and listen to that exhaust burble, puts a smile on my face. While driving I often think of the first owner, who were they, how did the upcoming war effect them?, what about the other owners, they certainly preserved the car. To me it's the history, how many returning solders bought flathead V8's and went on to put their own stamp on these wonderful motors.
The days of the internal combustion engines are numbered(not by us but by society as a whole), I just plan on enjoying mine as long as possible, and hopefully passing it on to one of the grandkids. |

Re: What’s so great about the Flathead Ford V8?
You said it mister RalphM. As I started to read this thread I recalled a year or so ago many of the same posters were going on about the bastardization of old Fords with various OHVs quite a discussion that was. No one spoke of what was so in your face obvious. The lines of style, year by year, compared to the competition were stellar. I don't know how they did it but Ford stylists made driving a Ford, something to envy. I'm pleased that you brought it up.

Tubman I don't say they are no good as a daily driver but I would rather drive my Jappa to work, to do the shopping and run around stuff though. I agree with you they are more than capable of being a daily driver if thats one wants to do.

Just the idea of packing a bag, crawling in that old Ford and going for a ride for a couple of days.

Re: What’s so great about the Flathead Ford V8?
What friends the Ford flatheads have been to me, I've had them since the 2nd WW as a kid starting to drive, through the Korean war, being there when I returned, then the wonderful feeling I get when I drive my restored 35 now. What a help it was recently after my dear wife of 65 years died,to just set in the old friend and remember all the wonderful times her and family had in flathead fords. I'll not give up my old Ford until I go to be with my dearest again
