Default When it rains, it pours.......

I just fixed the stuck #3 intake valve ( runs great ) and then swapped out the generator this morn so it would charge again, and now my new fuel pump( 3 years old, but very little running time ) is now leaking a mixture of gas and goobetween the upper and lower sections. I guess the crummy gas we have now must have eaten the diaphram up. I step forward, 2 steps back.......

You're right, I'm used to this. Everyone needs to vent now and then. The positive thing here is it barely cranks over before it comes to life!! I love it when a flsthead starts, no sound like it in the world!

I purchased the last of what my supplier had as hes changing manufactures.Bought about 60 of them, have used them for yrs and are good quality. Hes out of them now. Some of the valves seem to have a rubber like coating on them. I still have some of the old school ones which i use,but am running low on them too. ken ct.

Ken, I sent you another PM about what I just found.

I took off my pump to send to Ken for repair and noticed my gas was very dark in the bowl. I took the bowl off and the bottom of it had a black residue in it. I said, oh-no, I think the lining of the tank I had boiled and lined at a local radiator shop, is dissolving! I'm draining the gas now and it's coming out black! I didn't want to line it, but they convinced me at work to do it. I was going to boil it and take my chances. But now I think I'm screwed as far as the tank goes. A week ago the gas was a normal color. I guess I'll call the shop and see what they're going to do. Time for another gas tank! Another step back.........

Just a quick update....... I dropped off the tank back to the rad shop to have them look at it. The lining material is red and the gas I drained out last night was cherry red! It had alot of residue in the bucket I drained the gas into. So, I gave him the gas, the filter bowl with the crud in it. They are getting hold of the lining material maker in Chicago to look at what I found. When I had it boiled out, afterwards, the tank did not stink like old stale gas, this morn it did! Really nasty. I pulled the float and the pickup tube in the bottom and they have a red tint.
If anyone has a decent used tank in the Conn, Mass, western NY area, I may be needing it.
