Default New coil doesn't work

Guys,
My 30 Coupe has been running a little rough and I tested the resistance in the coil and found some inconsistent readings.... so I bought a new coil from Gaslight Auto Parts. The new coil tests perfectly, however when installed, the car won't start. On the outside of the coil is printed:

To Use With Esternal Resistor
D-511/512
12 Volt

Does anyone know why this new coil doesn't work?
- Mike

Are you running 12 volts? Use no resistor with 6 volts.

check wiring is correct . as said above ... 6v no resister / 12v needs a resister .

Could be a bad ignition switch. It could be caused by modern points and condenser. Any problems in the distributor can and will cause the coil not to fire.
