Don't drink hand sanitizer.

The boys in my neck of the woods distill the moon shine three times. That brings it up to about 160 proof and removes most of the bad taste. The three X's on a jug mean that it has been distilled three times.

It is not possible to make or store 200 proof moon shine because as soon as you open the jug the water in the air will get absorbed by the alcohol, which is very hygroscopic. At least not possible for the home distillery.

I actually don't like the taste of moon shine. I would rather have a nice aged rum over ice.

I can see where someone could come up with a chemical device for removing the ethanol from gasoline. Pour 10 gallons in the top and out comes 9 gallons of non ethanol at the bottom. All done automatically. A mixer to add the water at the top and a settling vessel with a float to control the separation.

The separation process does work as shown. I used to test our purchased pure gas that way in a small quantity. We usually bough 800 gallons or so at a time for equipment.
I would have safety concerns in separating any bulk quantity. Also don’t really see the economy in such.
I do not know the octane rating thereafter. Pure gas is available in our area

Excuse please. That is not quite right. It is true that, because of the additives, high-octane theoretically ignites slightly worse than pure gasoline. But ignition accelerators are added to the fuel to compensate for this. In practical driving, however, this is not noticeable.

A question from a newbie to the A's: what exactly is the problem with the addition of alcohol to gasoline? What breaks as a consequence of it, and what is the fix?

Having some experience with motorbikes from the 70's there have been a few problems, but usually nowhere near as many as there have been fears of problems And often fairly simple fixes were available.

Aviation gas is 100LL, LL stands for "Low lead". It still has lead. Aviation octane is measured differently. It's also dyed blue.

There is a gas station located near me that sells 110 octane leaded racing gas for the drag strip boys. I buy a small quantity and mix it with the regular non-alcohol gas for my Harley-Davidson's. Definitely adds a little extra "umph" to the Milwaukee marvels.

PS: I know this is a very bad thing to do, but occasionally I will take a big whiff of the racing gas. It takes me back to the good old days when men were men, women were women and cars were cars and everybody liked it that way!
