Default '47 Spare Tire Mounting?

I got a spare tire for my '47 coupe. There must be another piece for the 1/2" stud to go through that keeps the wheel from falling away. Using a huge washer is not enough being smaller than the center hole in the wheel. I expected perhaps that the stud would pass through one of the lug holes and be held by a lug nut. With a 600-16 tire on a 4.5" wheel, much like the original, the spare rests nicely in front of the axle. There must be another piece, or a jack holding it in place. If there is a retainer, would sure like to see a picture or a part number to help find the right piece. Thanks: Fred A

I'm about to fab up a plate for my '47. I bought a spare tire mounting kit from pep boys and it almost works, looks like the hole needs to be offset in the bracket.
