Squeaky belt
Any great ideas to stop the belt from squeaking? Belt dressing only last a short time. Thanks

Re: Squeaky belt
A few years ago I thought that I had a fan belt squeak. I couldn't get rid of the squeak and belt dressing only made a mess under the hood. I just run tap water as a coolant and have for years. When I added a small bottle of Gunk water pump lubricant the squeak went away. Water pump lubricant also prevents rust in the cooling system .

Re: Squeaky belt
flamingo has the best and permenate cure, change belt, but if you want to try to stop the squeak your self, you will need to sand the sides of the belt to get rid of the glaze, do the same with the fan or crank pully, squeaks develop when the pullys get real shiny and the belts get hard and glazed

Re: Squeaky belt
Not sure if this is your problem but there are many threads about running certain belts with an alt... Here is one

Re: Squeaky belt
I had that problem and found out that the fan was rubbing on the water pump housing. Also check to be sure the fan is tight on the shaft and the key is also tight.

Re: Squeaky belt
I've had some success with a bar of soap rubbed on the belt sides. I like the idea of sanding the sides of the belt. You could also try flipping the belt around to see if it helps.
My brother had a Caravan V6 that started a belt squeal as soon as he installed a new belt. We tried everything and never could get it to stop. |

Re: Squeaky belt
I thought I had a squeaky belt once. It turned out that the front motor mount was dry. I shot some oil on the motor mount springs and my squeak went away.

Re: Squeaky belt
Some repro parts can cause the crankshaft pulley to rub the front motor mount yoke and make a hard to locate noise .

Re: Squeaky belt
I've never had a belt squeek either. I've had other things make a noise that I thought was a squeekey belt but it always turned out to be something else.
