Re: Rear End Fluid Leak ?
I have a small leak because the rake on my RPU is higher at the rearend than the frontend. Rear tires: 7.50 front tires 5.50.

Re: Rear End Fluid Leak ?
In a perfect world, No. In a real world, Yes.
There is a seal located behind the speedometer worm gear on the drive shaft inside the tork tube. This should elimate the transfer of oil from the drive shaft to the u joint. Your seal could be damaged, or installed backwards. There is a possibility oil from the transmission is leaking into the U joint cavity. Take the time to look at Van Pelts web site. They have wonderful drawings for all of this. By the way; they are great people to do business with also. have fun Bill Herbert |

Re: Rear End Fluid Leak ?
Yes, Mac is great to deal with. We just corrected some issues with the trans and have re-installed everything. I suspect the grease seal in the tube may need replacement. Looks like my winter project.

Re: Rear End Fluid Leak ?
Even if you fix the seal the rear end could nearly empty itself and it wourl be in the torque tube. You need the lube in the differential. Bruce's Rod shop in Spring TX has a seal brucesrodshop.com

Re: Rear End Fluid Leak ?
No. But the modification shown above would make it so.

Re: Rear End Fluid Leak ?
For removal and re-installation of the drive shaft roller bearing, and roller bearing sleeve, the service bulletin recommends using tool #A-309. And tool A-310 for the grease retainer. Does anyone have stock photos of the old Ford tools, and or alternate methods used?

Re: Rear End Fluid Leak ?
I have one on my 34 because the drive shaft is at a slight downward angle from the diff to the trans. I have one from another source but it was just a dam and the oil got past it. I replace it with Bruce's. You have to call Bruce and give him a dimension from the diff. face to the drive shaft sleeve where the seal will ride. I did have a very slight problem where I noticed the pinion bearing cage would hit the face of the seal holder, I was able to grind a bit of the ID and everything cleared. It is imperative the ID of the seal holder not be enlarged too much because the face of the holder assures the pinion bearing race will not come out of the differential. Normally the torque tube does this but with the seal holder in place it then has to do the job.
