Default '40 Shackle and Sway Bar Bushing?

The Bushings on the front of my '40 look new but are pretty stiff after sitting in a car port for 48 years. Can or should these be lubricated before taking them back on the road? The rubber component probably won't like petroleum lubes. In high school shop we were taught to use brake fluid and that practice continued when I went to work in auto service. These days sounds pretty lame but....? Thanks: Fred A
