39 engine colors (Assume 60&85HP are the same)
I know the engine is green, but who sells paint that is closest to original? Hirsch?
Are water pump and crank pulleys black? Is transmission green as well as engine? (Mine is/was red which I'm sure is not correct.) Is oil pan black? Are 60HP head nuts just average hardware store nuts? They look pretty much the same. I'm trying to get everything correct on the 60HP I'm cosmetically restoring. Thanks Lawson

[QUOTE=Lawson Cox;2085556]I know the engine is green, but who sells paint that is closest to original? Hirsch?
Are water pump and crank pulleys black? No, they are green. The end of the pulley shaft is bare metal. Is transmission green as well as engine? Yes, but keep in mind the case was painted prior to assembly. Thus, no paint on the milled surfaces. (Mine is/was red which I'm sure is not correct.) Is oil pan black? Gloss. Are 60HP head nuts just average hardware store nuts? They look pretty much the same. No, the authentic nuts are cadmium plated - not zinc as you'd find in a hardware store. They also have a definite flat on each side. Also, you need to place a flat washer between each nut and the cylinder head. I'm trying to get everything correct on the 60HP I'm cosmetically restoring. No paint on gaskets nor any milled surface of the block. Head studs are near a stain black in appearance.

Re: 39 engine colors (Assume 60&85HP are the same)
ALSO, the head nuts are what is called a "Heavy" Pattern Hex Nut, not a "Finished" pattern Hex Nut which is A) one wrench size smaller than a "Heavy Pattern" AND B) "Finished" pattern is what "most" hardware stores carry!!!

Your engine was originally equipped with aluminum heads. Steel was a replacement part.

What is the correct nomenclature for the little pointed rubber "nose cone" on the 60 water pumps? Do you know if that item is being reproduced? Mine are sort of cracking. Any ideas on how to "repair" them so they look good?

If you watched the movie, "The World's Fastest Indian" Burt Munroe uses black shoe polish to fill the cracks in his tires, probably Kiwi brand.

CG Ford has the correct paint for $7.99 per can. I just sprayed my engine and one can is all you need. I bought three, I guess I’ll paint some stuff green around the house.

Is the flat washer a normal steel or cad. like the nuts? The engine I bought has all the nuts but no washers. I haven’t done final assembly yet and it just looked to me like it should have washers.

To be clear, washers were incorporated upon aluminum cylinder heads - not cast heads.

Re: 39 engine colors (Assume 60&85HP are the same)
Ford only changed engine color so as to be able to identify the new 239 engine from the 221 since they both looked a lot alike.

Re: 39 engine colors (Assume 60&85HP are the same)
I'm finally able to get down to the fun work on the 60HP, de-greasing it and removing forty-eleven coats of many colors of paint. I think, with a coating of that many colors I'll name it Joseph. And yes, I'm truly having a blast.
