How to open hood on 50 Ford passenger car with broken hood cable ?

I cant help you with that. However because of this problem I have attached a wire under the hood to the latch mechanism. It is a wire that is attached to the release lever and when you pull the wire it pulls the release lever to the left and will release the latch. Make a loop in the end of the wire to pull on and hide it behind the upper grill bar. Works great!!

I know from experience it takes around1 1/2 hours to remove the grill to get at the latch , lots of words not exercised for a while got some practice.

That reminds me of one I heard when I worked in St. Paul: Ma Ma, can I listen to Daddy put the chains on the car?

I removed the grill assembly which in no easy task and had very limited access to release the hood. Finally got the hood released and repaired the problem then added a second wire in case it happens again. A lot of cussing for sure.
