Marvel Carb fuel bowl insert
Curious as to what the spring-loaded device does in the fuel bowl. Will the carb function without it?

Your Carb doesn't look like a Model A Marvel.

I remember installing the carb with the captioned insert in it as a backup carb in the past. It worked okay. Thanks for the interest you have shown me on this. |

Agree with Y-blockhead, that is an accelerator pump.

Re: Marvel Carb fuel bowl insert
Does your carb look like the picture posted by Y-Blockhead? Your float bowl looks like a different shape.

Re: Marvel Carb fuel bowl insert
Yes, it’s an exact match. The Marvel might have been made to fit other car makes with some mods depending on the make. The insert might be an accelerator pump, two my carbs have the device and one doesn’t.
Someone might be more familiar than I with the Marvel. I just love Model A era carbs. |

The photo thing is scarry to me --- I don't understand all the jargon -- thumbnails and such. In the post preview, the "thumbnail" photos are separate from the message section. Well anyway, it worked.
The carb has a partial Zenith GAV but did work well. |

The white thing under the carb is a phone to prop it up to prevent glare.

Re: Marvel Carb fuel bowl insert
Could it be a power valve ?

Yes, but I wonder if the carb can function without it.

Re: Marvel Carb fuel bowl insert
I wonder if you have a miss match carb, the bottom from another model of Marvel? I don't see any way the accelerator/power valve is actuated.

Re: Marvel Carb fuel bowl insert
Maybe the hole into the carb by the throttle foot had a plunger/linkage that pushed the valve.

Re: Marvel Carb fuel bowl insert
That hole is where the gas came pouring out when the float was stuck open on my Marvel....a little 'rap' with a stick on the bowl fixed that problem! I like the size and simplicity of the Marvel.

Re: Marvel Carb fuel bowl insert
In May 2015 I posted a photo of what everyone concluded was either a power or vent valve. I concluded by saying that the carb I was looking at was the only one with that feature and forgot all about the post.
I looked into the carb without the valve and noted that the bottom hole which would hold the valve was securely plugged --- there is a passage in the upper half of the carb in a recess above where the valve would be. I believe this might be a vent--- so maybe this whole contraption might be some kind of vent. Will experiment with the Marvels later if problems arise with the Tilly that I currently running. You hate to mess with something that's doing great. Thanks to all for your input. Wishing y'all a Merry Christmas! Peyton |
