Default 35 PU Broken door handle mechanism

My 35 Pickup passenger door handle no longer operates the door mechanism. Both interior and exterior handles just flop up and down. No resistence. Window
will only crank 1/2 way down. Door is shut and I am unable to get the paneling off the door because of the bottom edge buttons are not accessible.
Is there anyway to move the door catch from outside or inside the truck or reach into the door interior and release something ?.
Thanks if you have any experience or tips solving this.

Maybe remove the seat back(if its in the way) and gain access to the striker(if possible) with a flat blade tool, gently pry and pop the door open .In the end the latch will have to be removed to repair(possible broken spring) or replace.Yes that means removing the door panel. Nice looking truck by the way.

Mr.Deuce Lover, thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a try. That would be a perfect way to get at the mechanism

Can you get the outside handle off? If so you may be able to move the mechanism by inserting a wide blade screwdriver into the square hole in the latch and turn it. You are going to have to pull off the handle anyway, so I would give this a try.

I had no luck opening the door by trying to pry the latch back with a a screw driver or removing the outside door handle and turning latch mechanism with a screwdriver. Both good idea's and I appreciate the offers.
If you look at the picture of the latch assembly and the arrow, my linkage arm has dropped off the tab on the latch assembly. I have limited access to the latch as the door is shut and the interior door panel can only be partially unbuttoned.
For some reason I cannot pull the tab (see arrow) that should pull back the striker.
Is there some type of dual action needed to pull the latch tab back or am I just not pulling hard enough ?. I have to assume that my latch mechanism is a
50-811850/1. It is the passenger door and has a keylock

Thanks

Do you have a working key for the lock? Make sure it's not in the locked position. Of course you probably already thought of that.

Als48, thanks. I do not have a working key for the lock. Have to assume it's not locked but at this point I would not bet the farm on it.

If you wind the glass all the way down you might be able to catch a glimpse of what is going on in there. Also you could consider using some sort of borescope phone attachment or trying to get a camera inside the panel through the partially removed inner panel. You could also consider removing the panel from the other side and having a good look and working out what is supposed to happen. This might lead you to be able to deduce what isn't happening on the bad side.
If anyone has clear close up photos of the correct latch mechanism for this vehicle showing those might help people not intimately familiar with them try and think through what might be wrong.
Mart.
