front brake operating shaft
while trying to get my brakes working better i found the operating shaft bushings were worn out, actually worn completely through in one area. i've got new bushings on the way from mikes. the operating shaft itself has .020" wear on the end where the lever goes, and about .010" on the brake end. will this work o.k. with the new bushings, or should i mig or tig the shaft up and turn it back to 9/16", the ends have centers so holding it in the lathe shouldn't be a problem.

Re: front brake operating shaft
I'd build it up and bring it back to the correct dimensions. Every little bit of wear on the brake system detracts from its performance and there will one day, be an event when you need all the brakes you can get. I figure it is only a little investment of time with the potential for a huge benefit later.

Before new operating shafts became available, it was common practice to set the bushings deeper into the housings so they would bear on unworn surfaces. If wear was significant, it would be welded. Unfortunately, this practice increased the stresses in the shafts.
