Default 28 AA rear end

Hey guys new to the forum, I just picked my first Model AA. It's got the low speed worm drive rear end in it. In the same barn I found a 2 speed ruxtell worm drive out of a TT I believe. I was wondering if the 2 speed could be easily swapped into the AA? Are the axle sizes and brake components the same?
Thank you!
David

Welcome to the Barn David. Congrats on the AA. I would think the brake components are different. As tt's had a transmission brake. Jeff

I hadn't thought about the t having a transmission brake. Are the axle fits the same on the AA wheels and bearings will slide on? I wonder how difficult it would be to add the backing plate for the brakes.
Thank you
David

Hello, welcome and congratulations on your AA. Nice looking truck. It will probably be simpler to find high speed gears to replace your low speed gears. That said it can be a challenge to find good high speed gears but it can be done. The high speed will give you a cruising speed in the high 20's.

Dave,
I have a loooooong hall, I could go that fast in my wheelchair, IF I could make that 90 degree turn, without takin' the BARK off my knuckles

Thanks for all the replies! I gave the 2 speed a spin and the bearings and rotating assembly all feel nice and tight. I checked the ratio and the best I can tell the high speed side is roughly 5:1 ratio. With this ratio am I still looking at the high 20's for a driving speed?

AA MPH information can be found at http://aafords.com/aa-information/#mph. At 2350 engine rpm, an AA with the 5.17 rear axle gear ration should go 41.6 mph. The 7.25 gears should go 29.7 mph.

The TT rear end worm gear can be used in an AA. The width of the gear is different. I am guessing that the TT 2-speed has the same worm gear.
