King Pin / Brake shaft issue
I'm rebuilding a front axle and started with good king pins so I just had new bushings installed and have the King Pins and spindles on the axle. The brake shafts were quite worn so new bushings were installed in the housing, and sized to fit new shafts. The problem is when I put the assembly into the King Pin, they won't turn. Its like the end of the shaft isn't the right shape to turn inside the King Pin. I even had a another set of King Pins laying around, different brand since they are marked L and R and still the same issue? It looks like I need to grind these to fit - is that normal?

Re: King Pin / Brake shaft issue
Do you have them on the correct sides?

Re: King Pin / Brake shaft issue
Sounds like you may have the wrong kingpins or have them installed on the wrong side, which Tom already mentioned. Rod

Re: King Pin / Brake shaft issue
Also, if you tried to stuff the felt INSIDE the kingpins, you need to remove it.
The felt fits between the end of the kingpin and the ledge on the backing plate. I often have to slice the felt thinner to make it fit. |

Re: King Pin / Brake shaft issue
Ther K marking could be the Ford mark, which would make them 35-36 Ford. They will not work with the Model A brake pieces. Rod

Re: King Pin / Brake shaft issue
I looks like the first set I was having issues with are B pins based on older posts and comparing angles.
