Default Model A Friends

I've posted before about my cancer illness. It's a dreadful thing, but, it's not like I have a choice. I keep plugging along trying to keep positive during every twist and turn that is given to me. I don't always succeed, but I try. A big part of what keeps me positive are the messages, cards, etc, from all my friends and family. It's incredible how powerful those little things are for someone who's down.

The point I'm getting to is this. I wanted to thank a couple of Model A friends for driving over 185 miles, one way (!) just to cheer me up. Mark Williamson and Gary Karr showed up last Thursday afternoon. Mark even brought his trailer and his beautiful 1931 Phaeton, to take me out for a cruise because I'm not able to drive. His Phaeton was restored back in the mid - '60's by Fred Meyers. You can see it in Henry's Lady. It's a fine restoration and runs like a new car. The paint is still beautiful, a real demonstration of Fred's painting abilities.

So on Friday morning, Mark, Gary, my wife Lisa and I, went for a litttle cruise around Simi Valley, California. Just up the street from me is a nice canyon drive that we like to take the Model A's. It was a beautiful day, clear skys, nice temperature. We put on about 30 miles that morning. What a lift to my spirits. Plus, I got to ride in the back seat with my Lisa, which we rarely get to do, as we're always driving our own A. Riding in the back gives a very different perspective to the cruising. It's nice for a change.

If you've got a friend or a acquaintance that's a bit down, take your Model A out and give them a ride. It just might make their day, or week, like it did mine.

I want to publicly thank Mark and Gary for taking the time out of their busy schedules, to drive all the way up here and back, and for lifting my spirits a whole bunch!

Man, that's beautiful country out there. Someday I hope to get out west for a visit.

You're lucky that's not in Minnesota, or they'd have the roads detoured and torn up to install CURB & GUTTER.

David,

Great to see you out and about with great Model A friends as Gary and Mark.

When it comes to friends...no one is to busy!

Take care and will try my hardest to be in San Diego in 2011.

Dave, that is a great story that shows a great combination of human decency and Model A bonding. Mark and Gary are two exceptional guys. Driving 180 miles to put a smile on a friend's face...priceless.

Dave, besides being a bit jealous of your outing, I am also jealous for Model A driving conditions. We have about 6" of snow on the ground and are expecting 6 - 12" more in the valley and double that in the high country.

See you in San Diego.

Dave,
I was just about to email you to see how you were doing. It is nice to hear about your nice "ride". I wish my 28 special coupe and phaeton were to the point I could take a ride in them. I hope to get the coupe together and mostly done by late winter. Of course, restorations are never really "done" as there are always some small items to finish up. Thanks for the help and pictures you have provided in the past. I hope you are getting better.

Dave, nothing like a little Vitamin "A" touring the countryside. Continue the fight and keep the faith my friend. TB
