Default Truck Transmission

Hello all,

I got an AA or BB truck transmission in pieces with a bunch of Model A parts recently. Is there any way to identify what I have and is there any value in this or should I start a scrap pile? It appears the gears are in decent shape. I am located in Michigan if there is any interest. I can send pics as well.

Don't scrap it. Someone out there is looking for this. If not now, in the future. Try running an ad in The Swap Meet, see top of window.

The AA trans has the clutch and brake pedal shaft on the trans case the BB does not.

The one I have does not appear to have the pedal shaft. It also has a PTO or something coming out of the passenger side of the case. Does this sound familiar?? Thanks

The 4 speeds both AA and BB were made by Borg-Warner. Both have a "port" or blanking plate to mount a then newly standardized "standard" PTO.

The PTOs are even still available - although any antique auto flea market or even a farm auction can bring a serviceable unit at considerably less cost.

The truck transmission was available for installation in an automobile "subject to rough service or for use of a PTO." It is a unit about 4x the weight of the standard Model A three speed - but apparently not heavy enough to exclude it from auto service.

Typical pricing on a truck transmission is about on par with a Model A tranny. Perhaps $50 for an unknown condition "core", $100 for a removed from service, $450 for "renewed." (However done - might be new paint.)

I just looked at the case again and it does have the hole for a pedal shaft. I guess it is an AA then. I would be happy to let someone have it for $50 if they can pick it up in Michigan(Kalamazoo).

If it has the clutch housing that is worth more than the transmission. They sell on Ebay for $150-$250. The PTO's can bring good money also.

When the roof leaks in an AA truck rainwater runs down the reverse guard rod and fills the 4 speed transmission . Rust damages the gears, shafts and bearings so good gears are in demand as most transmissions are damaged , sadly .
