Default Storing Por 15

I used some Por 15 out of a 1/2 pint can . I cleaned out the grooves the lid fits in and put cling wrap over the top of the can and then put the lid on . I turned the can upside down to make sure there were no leaks then I used my wife`s food saver to shrink wrap the can. I will let you know in a couple of months if this method of sealing the can worked.

I had a problem with a can of POR 15 and called the 800 number. My problem was I could not get the can open. He said they do have problems with that oce in awhile but since I bought it from a small vendor instead of the mail order I was on my own.

He said that after you use some of the paint you have to put it in a smaller glass bottle to save it and not the original can. Every time you keep using it it needs to go in a smaller glass bottle. I said were does that say it on the can ? No answer from him.

This question comes up hundreds of times and the cure is never documented.
Saran wrap is a messy ordeal which didn't work for me.

Remove lid ONLY once and drop in a couple of clean 1/4 - 3/8 nuts.
Punch (don't drill) a small hole in the lid and seal with a screw.
When ready to use, shake it up, remove screw & pour off what you need.
The thick por15 does a wonderfull job of sealing the tiny hole from air both as the screw is removed and replaced.
Stored on a shelf against a cement wall these cans are always cool ...although it's a heated shop.
They vary from 2 to 4 yrs old and the contents are perfectly fluid as of 4 minutes ago.

Here is what I do when i USE POR-15....IN ORDEER TO KEEP THE CAN FROM FREEZEN THE LID ON I punch a small hole in the bottom of the can and drain out what I am going to need for the job and the install a metal screw in the hold and screw it down until it is tight. When you need more just unscrew and squeeze out what you need. no waste and no hasel with the lid sticking to the can. It works for me and has for a long time....good luck

For por 15 to be affective it has to be mixed really ,really ,well . Hard to do with the lid on ,unless you have a paint shaker.

That's why you need the nuts. Billions of aerosol spray cans would agree.(see post #4)

With any paint I use I take nitrogen and flood the air out before I put the top
back on, I have paint that is 20yrs. old and still good using this method.
Also when I start with a gallon I buy empty quart cans and put the excess in those.
It doesn't work very well to try and keep a quart of paint in a one gallon can.

I put it in glass jars with metal lids and rubber gaskets, Armstrong olive jars. Mike Armstrong is a Model A guy. I'm careful to clean all paint off the glass and lid before putting back in the fridge. Works great. I've not found the need to mix thoroughly before each use, just gentle stirring.
