Default Dry distributer

I pulled the distributor out of my stock 29 tudor just to take a look. The housing inside was dry as dust. Should there be some lubrication in there? Should I put some oil/grease in or is this normal? Not having any problems but want to make sure there isn't a problem.

The inside of the housing shouldn't be oily. The bushing should a drop or 2 of oil thru the oiler every now and again.

Have you lubricated it according to the instruction book?

I found that if I lubricated it by the book that a little oil will come out the top bushing after a short drive

The instruction book says to add sufficient oil to reach the level of the oil cup---so I took the oil can and squirted it till it was full ---2 weeks later I had the cap off for something else and there are signs of about a drop or 2 of oil had flowed out the bushing and lubed the plate-dist housing bearing---but not so much that it got anywhere near the points

When I have the upper plate out I will give a light coating of grease to the 3 tangs and the outer groove, and center plate bearing surface

The dist cam gets lubed about once a year

I oil mine every time I change the engine oil including the aftermarket top screw that has an oil hole in it.

I pretty much do the same as Kurt, but when I first rebuild it I make sure it's well greased, except the points contacts or next to them. I also put a drop of oil on the points arm pivot. As you can see, I also balance the rotor. This also helps the life of the bushings.
