Exaust Whiste Help
Hey I have always wanted a areomore exaust whiste for my A but the kit sells for around $400.00. I just found out that Brattons Model A ford parts sells a similar Exaust whistle and they claim it sounds the same. Has anyone ever purchesed one of these whistle's and tried it? Does it sound the same? They are painted flat black and attach directley to the end of the tail pipe with a chain that goes to a foot pedal mounted i your floor. Here is the link to the exact part I am talking about.
http://www.brattons.com/product.asp?...=any&PT_ID=all I would really love to hear one in action. Thanks for your help Ryan Surbey 780-720-9255 Last edited by ryan1929; 11-26-2011 at 10:02 AM. |

I like that, and may need to buy one to go with my wolf whistle.

Re: Exaust Whiste Help
I know they are different sounding simply because the length of the pipes which make different notes are different. Maybe for someone who is not necessarily a musician might feel differently.
I have a couple of Aermores and currently run one on one of our T's. And, I actually have the correct one (actually a couple) for a Model A that bolts between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe which turns the whistle forward in the engine compartment, and parallel with the frame rail. The going price for an Aermore with the cut-out designed for the Model A is about the same price as what the Bratton's unit is but IMHO they are much easier to install and they sound better. Might I suggest you search for one of those. Contact me off-line as I might even be presuaded to let you try one of mine and see if it is as much fun as you thought. . |

Re: Exaust Whiste Help
I thought I wanted one of these. I bought one that included the muffler already welded in. I used it a few times and then sold it. Mine didn't make much noise until you revved the engine up. Good luck!

Re: Exaust Whiste Help
Would it make much noise if you were driving at say 35 or 45mph and what type of exaust whistle did you have? the Aeromore or the black one from Brattons?

Re: Exaust Whiste Help
Ryan, the closer it is to the exhaust manifold, there more noise it makes because of the heat energy. Also, there are different sizes of whistles where the tubes were sized by the cubic inch displacement of the engine.
Also, the Aermore is meant to mimick the sound of an old steam locomotive whistle or horn. A whistle is only meant to be a momentary signaling device. They really aren't meant to be driven down the road with it on continuously anymore than you would drive down the road holding down the Ahooga horn button continuously. |

Quote:
My units install just like the one in that 3rd Youtube video (the one with the blue Coupe). Its as easy as disconnecting the exhaust pipe, using one clamp to attach the cut-out to the exhaust manifold and then re-attaching the exhaust pipe to the lower end of the cut-out. A length of "bailing wire" run from the cut-out lever up beside the choke rod creates a way to control the whistle. It's that easy however these are a fairly rare and popular era-accessory so they do fetch what some wives would deem as an expensive toy. As far as a tone difference, listen to the differences between the whistle on the "fenderless Tudor" and the Pick-up. Which has the more authentic train sound to you? . Re: Exaust Whiste Help
Has anybody ever thought about : when you connect the whistle in the engine bay it's going to very dirty in there over time. The sound maybe better but the dirth and what have have you keeps you cleaning up the mess .

Re: Exaust Whiste Help
The one I had was located just after the bend and in front of the muffler. It was pointed backwards.

Re: Exaust Whiste Help
I have a 3 tube Aeromore on my T and teh correct set up for my A, yet to be installed and another Aeromore which is Huge, never seen one this big, must be for a 8 cylinder or big 6. I love the sound the T makes especially when hitting on all 4 pins! Lound like a old locomotive. I have bought all of mine at swap meets or estate sales, all under 100.00 except the big one, I gave 120 for that if I recall.
Cheers!

Re: Exaust Whiste Help
I have one of those new ones, I bought it on e bay a while ago, but haven't gotten around to permanently installing it. I did notice that it does require some engine revving to get decent sound and it's a higher pitched sound over the Aermore. I don't like having to hack off a couple of inches of exhaust pipe, mainly why I haven't completed the install. However, I do like that I am not blowing exhaust gas off under the hood and also, there is the clearance issues as well since I also run with an air filter.
IMHO the best bang for the buck is still the good old Wolf Whistle! It works well in parades at idle and saves the ahooga horn from extra wear and tear. Harry K |
